- Blue-bottom discs are more prone to rot than silver ones — hold one to a light and look for pinholes.
- Fat consoles develop disc-read errors as the laser sled wears; slims run cooler but have their own power supply failures.
- A handful of late titles are DVD dual-layer and will fail on a tired laser while everything else still loads.
Choose your copy
Start with the photos and description of the exact piece. Loose copies suit a playing collection; if you collect boxes and manuals too, check the listed contents before buying. Edition names alone don’t tell you what is included.
